Janus Kubicek Virtual Gallery

Program: Public, Art Gallery

Year: 2014

The task was to create a 3D virtual gallery space displaying the paintings of notable Czech artist Janus Kubicek. The design is a simple cube shaped building, minimalistic from the outside with an atrium in the middle and exhibition spaces all around. The gallery is accessible from a tunnel passage which opens to the atrium and reception area as the visitor reaches the ground level.

The concept is inspired by the CMYK colour model which creates the

entire colour spectrum when combined. There are 3 different exhibition spaces each focused on a certain phase of the author’s work and one of the CMY colours. Designed in collaboration with two other students, each student being responsible for a single gallery space.

One of the main design elements is diffused light with lines leading the visitor forward in an exhibition of “plan libre” composed space.
